Day-to-Day

Monday Morning

Monday morning, the beginning of another week in Bucerias, or in my case a time to have another coffee, and look at some of the people who made the past week special.

Kelly and I went to the BACKYARD’S fourth anniversary celebration last night. What a local success story. It all started with Axel’s larger than life smile. Combined with good food, entertainment, local and exotic drinks, great service. No wonder it has grown. No wonder it was filled with friends last night. Axel shared his perspective. The Backyard is about friends, not customers. They take pride in knowing people’s names, and their likes. They will close for a few days as they have some renovations scheduled that will enable them to provide even better service. Way to go Axel and staff!

When Kelly and I moved here 7 years ago, the only person we knew was Victoria Pratt our real estate sales person. The second person we met was Lauro. He made us feel welcome. On second thought he made us feel enthusiastically welcome. A few years ago we lost track of Lauro. What a pleasant surprise the other day to run into him at Ozzie’s in Centro. Needless to say, we have renewed our friendship, and will pop in on a regular basis to say hello, and enjoy some heartfelt humour.

The Amigos de Bucerias plastic recycling program continues to look for volunteers to assist. It is about 3 hours one morning per week. Incredibly, this program is run entirely by volunteers, who collected and recycled over 66,000 pounds of plastic in Bucerias, last year. Talk about making a difference!

As I mentioned earlier, Kelly and I moved here 7 years ago this July. We had one-way tickets and 5 suitcases! No going back. After enjoying Zona Dorada, we have sold our home and are re-locating to the East Side. We are not leaving Bucerias, we are moving to a different neighbourhood. Life In The Slow Lane is going to take a short summer break while we pack and move. It is going to take me a while to figure out how come I have so many single socks. I do buy them in pairs!
