Welcome to Bucerias, Nayarit, Mexico!

Over 15 years ago, my husband and I embarked on a journey that led us to Bucerias, a quaint Mexican fishing village nestled on the shores of Nayarit. Our initial stay was in a charming house near the Royal Decameron resort, a peaceful oasis just a short 20-minute stroll from El Centro, the heart of the town where most of the restaurants and shops were concentrated.

As we meandered along the cobblestone streets toward El Centro, particularly on Lazaro Cardenas Street, we couldn’t help but notice its hidden potential. At that time, this street boasted just a handful of cool restaurants, shops, and perhaps four or five galleries. Yet, we saw beyond the present – we saw opportunity.

A Vision of Growth

Fast forward to today, and the once modest Lazaro Cardenas Street has evolved into what many fondly refer to as the “Golden Zone.” It now hosts an abundance of restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, galleries, and more. But what truly sets it apart is its uninterrupted access to the longest beach in the Bahia de Banderas, available at every block. In a country renowned for its tourism industry, this translates to an influx of visitors and, in turn, more job opportunities for the local community.

The Rise of the ‘Upper East Side’

But the transformation of Bucerias doesn’t stop there. Artisans and independent entrepreneurs are embarking on a new journey, crossing the proverbial highway to what is quickly gaining a reputation as the “Upper East Side.” This budding neighborhood offers a unique blend of a vibrant local culture, a world-class sports park, a recently upgraded mercado ready to host an array of vendors, delightful local restaurants, and even new cervecerias. Children playing in the streets, roosters adding a touch of authenticity to the ambiance – the list goes on.

The excitement is palpable as Bucerias steadily emerges as a world-class destination. While growth is essential, there’s a strong commitment to preserving the essence of the community, respecting the generational families who have their roots firmly planted here. It’s a place where you can savor the healing beauty of majestic sunrises over the mountains and sunsets into the ocean.

Bucerias’ transformation from a small fishing village into a thriving world-class destination is not just a testament to its natural charm but also to the vision and determination of those who saw its untapped potential. As it continues to evolve, it remains a place where tradition meets progress, where culture and community thrive alongside development. Bucerias invites you to be part of its remarkable journey, embracing the rich tapestry of experiences it offers to all who visit.

Keep smiling!

Thanks for reading, Amiga. We have one more story on the Bucerias transformation, after chatting with Ezekiel from Culi’s, and his cousin Fernando, of Buclas brewery. I think you might enjoy their positive spin as well. Gracias y Saludos!

  • Nicely highlighting the emerging areas of Bucerías which is only natural for a growing destination. It underscores the settlement of many expats finding new neighbourhoods they give them comfort.
