Another Winter Behind Us
WELL…THAT WAS HIGH SEASON!!!!
And what a high season it was. Things started getting busier last September and as the months rolled by the number of visitors grew. In our particular lives, a family wedding here in November added 46 visitors for a week, which when combined with others who stayed with us over the winter, 55 family members and friends spent time in Bucerias. We, of course, are just a snap shot of what this high season was all about.
Our business friends who struggled with all of us during the nightmare that was Covid, were once again making a living. Restaurants, bars, tiendas…they were all busy. The airport was like an ant colony. Everywhere you looked in the terminal, mass scurrying.
Lazaro Cardenas was like never before. First off, many winter visitors are walkers. The normally busy sidewalks were taken over by condo developers. Like a giant eraser rubbing them out. The walkers now had to use the roadway. Those that don’t walk, sometimes cycle. Add a bunch of bikers to the street. As mentioned, before the businesses that had sat idle, were now busy. They need supplies. Add a bunch of delivery trucks to the mix. The building boom required building materials. Another whack of truck traffic. Visitors by car, spent most of their time stopped in the middle of the street with 4-way flashers on and cell phones in their hands. Chaotic describes Lazaro Cardenas!
Kelly and I chose to make Bucerias our home 6 years ago. We have seen normal, we have seen an empty town due to Covid, and we have just lived through the 2022-2023 season that was an explosion of people.
What next?
March 31st is the date that a lot of “winter birds”, as referred to by our Mexican friends, return north. Breathe easy, right? Wrong! Santa Semana, Easter when school is out for 2 weeks. The winter birds who went north have been replaced with Nationals. Nothing had changed.
The Wind Festival was last weekend. What a vista…what a way to raise a glass and toast the beauty of our town.
