Cost of Living
Bucerias has the longest stretch of Riviera Nayarit´s sandy beaches, enjoys blue skies with just the right puff of cloud, swaying palm trees, Mexican architecture and a seductive tropical climate. With improving infrastructure, a great variety of property options, ease of access (barely 20 minutes north of the airport), and an established expatriate community, the town has become one of the most attractive locations for foreign owners to call their second home. Friendly Bucerias is really at the top of the list of all the coastal town for its great vibe, soft-adventure water sports and artsy and “foody” scene. What makes it even better for the would-be property-buyer wondering about the ancillary costs is that we have, indeed, remarkably affordable cost of living. To underscore that, I literally “ran into” a couple yesterday happily riding along Lazaro Cardenas on their bikes and they waved me over to the side of the road to give me a hug and say that, having bought a condo a year and-a-half ago, they were so excited how it was all evolving for them. They had beefed up this year’s stay to six months and were “revving up” to be here a year or more next season. They raved at the low costs of services (painting their place completely, doing light renovations, adding some great art) and that their condo fees were so reasonable—somewhere around 3,000 pesos a month. Also, that their property taxes will only be 3,000 pesos this year. That’s pesos! On top of that, they’d just come from a wonderful meal on the beach with drinks and said they couldn’t have cooked it for less. I said, “Isn’t that the truth!” They headed off with big smiles on their cool bikes that can handle the cobblestones. Mmm, that’s the best and really just the way it is here.
