The Amigos de Bucerias Recycling Program Needs You
Well now that is a bit self serving. Anyway, as Bucerias Life in the Slow Lane, we sponsor two recycling baskets. Kelly helps on a recycling route during the summer, and I am about to become a driver for the program. Feels great!
The other day we had the pleasure of attending a retirement luncheon for Dick and Taylor. They were two of the originals, who used their personal vehicles to collect and recycle plastic. This began in 2006. Takes dedication to a whole new level. Ultimately, the program was taken over and is now operated under the Amigos De Bucerias umbrella.
Thank you, Dick and Taylor, for your years of hard work and dedication.
It is important to understand the scope of the operation. The program covers all of Bucerias. I was curious as to how much plastic we are talking about. I was astounded to learn that in 2023. a whopping 30,750 kilos of recyclables were collected and recycled. For an old fart like me, that equates to 67,650 pounds. It does not require much imagination to figure out how much of that plastic would have ended up in our bay!
Over the years, the group has been able to purchase a truck and trailer. A storage yard is rented. The entire operation is run by volunteers. In the winter months, volunteers are more plentiful. In the summer months, the program has fewer people to draw from, so some volunteers do it year round…and some of them are in their eighties!
With the demographic of our town changing, as more and more remote workers and young families make the move, the program would sincerely benefit from your time. It actually has the potential to disband. No people = no collection.
Most volunteers commit to one morning per week. At the moment the need for volunteers is urgent.
If you are unable to assist as a volunteer, a tank of gas for the truck costs about 1,300 pesos, and if you’d like to sponsor a recycling basket, the donation is 400 pesos. Any assistance would be appreciated.
If you are able to contribute one morning per week, please send and email to adbrecycling@gmail.com

How can I buy a replacement bin? The one in front of our place at Carmen Serdán 21 was stolen. Thank you.
My sincerest apologies, Ben. I recall reading your message when it arrived, but I see now that I neglected to respond.
I usually take pride in myself for prompt interaction with our readers. Not this time, sorry.
To receive a new recycling bin my best advice would be to contact Neil Lamb, the lead recycler, via email… adbrecycling@gmail.com
Thank you for reading our articles, Amigo, and best wishes to you.
