Day-to-Day

Todo Bien!

Another Monday morning! A time to deal with a new week and figure out if I learned anything from last week. Things are changing here. Not radically, but there is change. Many snowbirds, or winterbirds as locals call them, stayed home because of the pandemic. The American winterbirds are fully vaccinated and are making up for their lost winter time. They are here and their numbers are growing. I am saddened that Canadians are still not able to travel, but that gets into politics, a subject for another time.

The increase in numbers locally is noticeable as we wander around Bucerias. Karen’s, one of our favourite spots, had a corned beef and cabbage night recently. Other years, in May, we would have known everyone at Karen’s. This year it was packed and we hardly recognized anyone!

Leo’s Place, another favourite, usually closes at the end of April, which coincides with the end of high season. This year they are remaining open Wednesday -Saturday!

Sandra, the driving force behind Sandrina’s is staying open this year. They normally close for an extended period during the summer.

This is a small sampling, but it is a positive indication that our town is getting on with life after two disastrous winter seasons. The many locals who rely on tourism are doing better than last year.

The municipality commenced road repair in March. The work continues and many of the east west streets are much improved. Some of the topes have been painted yellow and white, so you can actually see them before you feel them. Nice changes.

The second vaccine shot for those 60 and over is scheduled later this week. Those 50 and over have been registered and are awaiting notification for their shots.

All in all a positive, promising week. If I could just understand why the issue of getting change at check out counters in Chedraui is so problematic, my week would be complete!
