Wraps for Hope
Our friend, Jennifer Smith, is a giant supporter of a local non-profit organization, Refuge of Hope. Jennifer and fellow volunteer, Jana Erickson, are coordinating a wonderful program for local moms. Read all about it right here.
If you were at the Art Walk last Thursday, you may have noticed that Refuge of Hope Bucerias has a table at the Bucerias Art Walk Plaza. Like many charities here, having a stall at an event or market helps raise awareness and money for organizations throughout the Bay. This one, however, goes a little further. This supports a new training program for the mothers of the children who attend Refuge. They are learning to sew, which gives them an opportunity to make things to sell, sew for others, or even start their own business.
The first initiative, Wraps for Hope, was made possible with a donated sewing machine, startup money for supplies and wages, training by volunteers, and a table during Art Walk. The program not only provides training and income for the moms, but the proceeds from the sale of the wraps are used to purchase more materials, wages, and support programs at Refuge of Hope.
If you are in the area, stop by the Art Walk this Thursday. Jennifer will be at the Art Walk Plaza the next three Thursdays from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and can also be reached at refugeofhopegiving@gmail.com.
