Day-to-Day

Mutter, Mutter

For some time now Kelly has advised me that my Monday morning musings are really Monday morning mutterings. Fair enough.

September Rain Approaching

The rainy season that wasn’t. Having lived in Bucerias for eight years full-time, rainy season was just that. Heat, humidity, rain followed by heat, humidity, and more rain. This summer has had heat, humidity, and little rain. I don’t mean the April showers and May flowers kind of thing, but the rain that rises over the sidewalks, when staying inside is no longer an option but a necessity. Still have the heat and humidity though. Water bottle in one hand, sweat towel in the other.

Interesting to note the activities in the gym located in the area of Calles Amapa and Paradiso. Virtually every evening it is busy with young people participating in group sports. So good to see. These kids are not hanging out, they are participating.

Eagerly watching the re-construction of P. del Canal. It appears that street lights are being installed up the middle which likely means a divided road. A median up the centre. Might take some of the pressure off Estaciones one day. Realistically, I will stick to observations and avoid the crystal ball stuff.

Does anyone else suffer from reusable plastic bag syndrome? Go shopping, fill two or three reusable bags, carry them into the house, unpack them and put them in a cupboard somewhere. Next time out shopping, the bags are safely home in the cupboard. Crap (substitute your appropriate expression), buy a couple more reusable bags.

Might be a yard sale in my future, although I can only imagine the turnout to sort through reusable plastic bags.

On the subject of shopping, since moving to the east side, lots of small tiendas or shops. Buy a bit of this, some of that. Great way to get exactly what you need for the day. The fruiterias are great. I only need two potatoes, or one onion and two carrots. I get to pick out exactly what I want. I am slowly graduating from the kilo bag of carrots. I only needed two for the recipe. Doesn’t matter how diligent we are in trying to use the rest we didn’t need, invariably the last two or three carrots are discovered in the back of the crisper. At least I think they are carrots. Seafood for dinner…I will have that piece of mahi-mahi, and eight large shrimp please. I would like two porkchops, please, followed by the thumb and forefinger measurement. Fun, efficient and fresh!

I am sure most everyone sees the wire mesh baskets throughout Bucerias for recycling plastic. The recycling is operated by the Amigos de Bucerias, a non-profit volunteer organization. Last year just over 66,000 pounds of plastic was collected. I am sure most people are aware of the topography of Bucerias. Everything drains toward the bay. Plastic floats. How many pounds would have ended up in the bay? Bucerias Life in the Slow Lane posted an article describing plastic recycling a few weeks ago. https://buceriaslifeintheslowlane.com/monday-morning/

Contact Neil at: adbrecycling@gmail.com if you are able to help out. Usually 3 hours one morning a week.

Kelly just informed me that I am pretty much muttered out for today. She just handed me a clean dish towel???
