Can You Hear Me Now?

A number of years ago it became evident to most people in my sphere, that my ears were getting a failing grade in the performance classes. It must have been the blank look on my face that indicated I had not heard a word they said! Anyway off to the hearing clinic in our hometown in Ontario. After some poking and prodding and testing, I was outfitted with hearing aids. What a difference…able to lower the volume on the TV to a level that no longer rattled the house windows. Partaking in conversations. Able to hear every word my wife sent in my direction, complimentary and otherwise.

Over time, I managed to lose one. No problem, I am retired, moving to Mexico, so the remaining one will work. No problema, until the remaining hearing aid stopped working. Here I go again! Missing a lot of conversations, having my wife answer on my behalf, back to square one.

Decibel Scale

Talked to our family Doctor, who referred us to OyEME Audiology Clinic in Puerto Vallarta. Professional audiologist, soundproof room, these folks know what they are doing. Again after some poking and prodding and testing, my hearing aids are in the works. Apparently they have to program the aids to a level that will give you normal hearing. And they did. I can hear what people are saying to me and occasionally what people are saying about me. http://oyeme.info

In addition to my ears being back on the honour roll, my wife and I had the pleasure of meeting Luis González. He is the face behind the clinic. For those of you who follow our posts, he is also the Luis González who is one of our guest columnists, writing about the history of Mexico. https://buceriaslifeintheslowlane.com/about-us/

The Usual Response

As I thanked Luis for the restoration of my hearing, I mentioned a second problem. I have benefits provided by and administered by Great West Life. I believe they now call themselves Canada Life. In any event I find it extremely difficult to get a claim approved. They are one huge claims denial operation. Luis indicated that he was aware of the amount and calibre of paperwork required to satisfy most benefit providers. True to his word he provided a detailed package that convinced the gate keepers at Canada Life to let this one through. Incredibly they paid for their portion of the hearing aids. Just have to convince Luis to open a dental clinic. Maybe he could convince Canada Life that they ought to process and pay the occasional dental claim.

The clinic has a great website in Spanish or English. Their office staff are bilingual and follow closely the current protocols. Tepic office phone: 3112181020 or Puerto Vallarta office phone: 3222932691 or at http://oyeme.info
