Bucerias Arts

Galerias Memo

In my other life I’d never picked up a paintbrush except to add colour to walls. After moving to Bucerias, I was introduced to acrylics on canvas at a local Arte y Vino class. I fell hard for the creative pastime, and knew I would continue painting on my own. Armed with a list of necessary supplies, I travelled to an art store located in Vallarta. Pleased with my purchases, it dawned on me I now had to manoeuvre four large canvasses and my bag of tricks on the bus back to Bucerias. Not fun.

Then, a most beautiful thing happened…one day I spotted a new gallery being prepped for opening, so, so close to our house. Observing from the street, I watched a dedicated artist painting every single day in his new gallery.

For inspiration, I visited and introduced myself.

Guillermo Gonzalez Romero, otherwise known as “Memo,” has become an Amigo and go-to guy for all my art supplies.

Memo was born in Atotonilco El Alto, just about 100 kilometers east of Guadalajara. He was formally trained and has been creating beautiful paintings in oils, acrylics and watercolours for twenty-five years, the last four in his current location.

I love going to Memo’s gallery to see what he has on the go on any given day. Of course, I must refrain from buying every single painting, although we do proudly hang two of his beauties on our walls.

I was particularly frustrated with one of my own paintings…time and time again, I just could not get the bird feathers right. Memo was so gracious in giving me a guiding hand without encroaching on the fact it was still my painting. Gracias, Memo!

He will create custom canvases exactly to your specifications. Buy your paint, brushes, and various tools right there. Once, I went to Memo looking for a palette knife. He didn’t have any in stock so he gave me one of his. I like to think it makes me a better painter, having a little of Memo’s talent rubbed off on his knife!

Commission Memo to create an original for you, or a reproduction of one of your favourites.

My apologies, I thought I had responded previously to your inquiry, Claudette. Thank you for your message.
Memo advised he is not offering lessons, as his commission work keeps him very busy.
      Saludos!
