Day-to-Day

International Women’s Day

Today, I’m sure you’ve realized, is International Women’s Day. Along with the rest of the world, I celebrate. I celebrate that my mom gave birth to me on this momentous day. I celebrate that she instilled in me all of my good parts. And that she taught me the importance of family, and respect for myself and others. I celebrate that I have two older sisters to look up to, whom have raised incredible daughters of their own. And I say, “Thank You,” to my girlfriends, also known as my most ardent cheerleaders. Let us all remember steps taken, making great strides in feminism, and please continue to support girls and womanhood while challenging misogyny as we progress toward global equality.

We want to highlight just some of the professional ladies in Bucerias. We asked a few to give us their thoughts on the importance of this day. I must tell you, I didn’t give them much time…maybe 24 hours? But I knew each is a strong and intelligent businesswoman…not only could they send me their thoughts but they would also cover a million other things in that 24 hours, with one hand behind their back!

Thank you for sharing your time and your words, Ladies

What does International Women’s Day mean to me? I think it’s a way to celebrate and recognize the achievement and elevation of women’s role in our society. I still remember the tag line on an ad about slim cigarettes, “You’ve come a long way, baby,” and never really understood what it meant. Women earned their right to vote, became CEO’s and presidents, excelled in sports, went to space and ventured out to be successful entrepreneurs. Women are naturally good in business because they are used to multitasking and organizing things and systems. When I started my restaurant, I never had a business before, nor ever worked in a restaurant. I made the business plan and bought books and started studying the business. Because I didn’t know anybody in the area, I had no mentor or family to advise me on how to open a restaurant. I had to literally start from zero. But I noticed that most of the successful restaurant and shop owners are women. So I figured, Bucerias must be a good town to women entrepreneurs. As they say, the rest is history. Women should continue to move forward and spread this movement and continue to advance women’s rights and equality. There are places in the world where women are still abused, suppressed, and prevented from going to school or getting a job. Even in developed countries, women are still passed over for promotion and are getting paid less than their men counterparts. I hope that someday, International Women’s Day will not be about the fight for the above reasons but rather to celebrate women’s equality in all aspects, be it political, social, cultural and religious. http://encoreonthebeach.com 329 298 0140

International Women’s Day provides a dedicated moment to focus and give special recognition and thanks to the crusaders—women and men alike—whose lifelong efforts and convictions have improved the welfare and rights of not only women, but children and minorities of any sexual orientation. We can reflect on and be thankful for important milestones, though, yet be mindful that equities we may enjoy in our realm are not universal and the importance of contributing our personal grain of sand to continued humanitarian improvement of any kind.  http://victoria@timothyrealestategroup

International Women’s Day means to me: Strength, equality, power, respect, hope, acceptance, and the two most important, Forgiveness and LOVE. We all have to move forward and learn from the past. Live and learn, and LOVE!

A Young Teenaged Amiga – International Women’s Day is a day where women around the world remember how far we’ve come. We have accomplished so much and we still have a long way to go, and this day reminds us of our fight and the importance of women all around the world.

Dennis Wilson – It was suggested to me that men ought to speak about the importance of International Women’s Day. One of those “better get this right!” moments. So I thought about it for a while, which has never been my strong suit. What role do women play in my life? Of course, my wife Kelly comes to mind. Besides being a woman, and coincidentally my best friend, she also celebrates her birthday, today, on International Women’s Day. How cool is that! What other women play a role in my life? My daughter Dana comes to mind. She loved to learn, and ended up with a PHD, a professional career, and finds time to be a great mom, and great wife. When I don’t feel well, who do I call, Dra. Itzel Hernandez, that’s who. A young professional woman, who is also raising a family. She suggested I see a dermatologist, as the amount of sunshine in Mexico is a bit more than the 6 or so weeks of summer in Canada. Guess what, Dra. Sandoval is, you got it, a young female professional. My dentist is Dra. Genesis Gavia, yet another young female professional. Kind of says it all I think!
