Manos de Amor Needs Your Support
The twenty-eight children who call our local orphanage home are in dire need of a new vehicle. There’s a used van available to purchase, they just need some assistance in raising enough funds.
Under the care of Veronica Gomez, orphanage founder, along with a small group of committed volunteers, Manos de Amor provides these kids with a home and family environment, brimming with true love.
The children are very active in their community, learning about the world through in-house education and outdoor activities. Below, an excursion to study Bahia de Banderas’ national park, home to wildlife like fish and sea turtles, and an important breeding ground for various birds.
Los Arcos National Marine Park (The Arches, giant granite hills towering out of the ocean)
Here they are, cheerfully participating in scheduled events like beach cleanups every second Saturday.
They are invited to join the children of the Marina de la Cruz Children’s Club, enjoying physical, recreational and learning activities. They also go skating once a week!
All the children attend a nearby public school, and they take their studies very seriously. See their achievements from the last school year…the numbers below are scored out of 10. Outstanding marks!
Ready for the new school year! Classes commenced August 28th.
In addition to formal schooling, activities at home consist of computer classes every Saturday by the Quetzal Volunteer, English classes Tuesday and Thursday by the Countr Volunteer, and Ballet Folklorico classes (traditional mexican dance) Saturdays given by the volunteers, Angi and Eli. A psychologist also attends the home once a month to provide mental health services.
I could tell you more and more, with mucho gusto, but their website is well worth investing some of your time. Perhaps you’ll even decide their much needed van is also a thoughtful investment by way of your donation. Maybe your group of neighbours will pitch in, or your church might consider assisting the cause. Every peso helps!
