Chin-Gon Asian Flavors

According to Google, Chin-Gon means awesome. They made a good decision naming this restaurant, which is today’s feature in Bucerias eats. Laurie, the owner, has a story we are getting used to hearing. While vacationing in Bucerias from Alberta, in Western Canada, she caught the bug. “I fell in love with Bucerias, and in 2012, moved here to live.”

After moving here, she worked with Hugh and Simon, of Luna Lounge and Simon’s Bistro fame. One day, she found out that the original owner of Chin-Gon wished to sell. A week later Laurie bought it, and assisted by her wife Alethea, opened in the fall of 2017, under new management.

The menu is Asian. The choices, are varied with Vietnamese, Thai and Indian accents. As in any good restaurant in Bucerias, the kitchen is central. By that, I mean it is not located away from the dining area, but right in the middle of it. The aromas drifting around while your meal is being prepared just add to the experience.

They planned on being successful, just did not plan on how successful they would be. They seat 34 at maximum capacity, and serve some 125 meals daily. Take out is available or enjoy the hustle and bustle of a busy restaurant filled with happy customers. They are licensed, should you choose to order a beverage. My favourite is a chingolina…green tea, hibiscus flower, ginger, honey, with or without tequila. Like no other drink I have ever had, and I have tried my share.

They are open 6 days weekly, 3-10, closed on Monday. They are so busy they do not take reservations. Kind of says a lot! For entertainment, you will notice that there is usually a busker offering his or her particular brand of music.

In addition to the menu, Laurie and Alethea offer gluten free, soy free or vegan meals. If you have dietary requirements, or food preparation suggestions, please ask. If they can accommodate you, they will.
