Charity & Volunteering

Roger Peterson

Roger is fully involved in several Bucerias charitable activities and committees.  He has been an active member of the Amigos de Bucerias for seven years, the last three in the role of Vice President, and in January 2020, he was elected President.  As part of his responsibilities, Roger keeps members informed, maintains their website and Facebook page, responds to inquiries, sends meeting notices, and arranges guest speakers.  https://amigosdebucerias.org

Originally from British Columbia, Roger spent forty years working for West Fraser Timber, the world’s largest lumber producer.  At one point his company sent him to Montreal to set up a satellite office and he lived there for five years. While in Montreal, a friend asked Roger, “Would you like to meet a girl?”… Roger and Pattie have been married for eighteen years.  A dedicated family man, Roger adopted Pattie’s young son, and his number of children increased from three to four.

After occasionally vacationing in Vallarta, in 2008 they had an opportunity to stay for a month.  “We looked around and contacted a realtor.”  They decided on a place in Bucerias and have been spending winters here for several years.  “What I like about our location is everything that we need is within walking distance, like the doctor, a lawyer, or the laundromat.”

Roger’s humanitarianism goes way back.  On an annual basis he raised funds for his community’s Christmas Cheer program, resulting in seasonal baskets for the less fortunate, and he has acted as auctioneer at various fundraisers and charitable organizations through his employment. We met him through mutual interest in the Migrant School, where he continually takes steps to improve the children’s educational experience.

Roger likes to keep fit year round and enjoys running, walking and playing golf.  In BC, he likes to spend time with his three grandchildren whenever possible.
Next time you see Roger, pass on your thanks.   He’s a community member who makes a difference.
