Fabulous Foursome
We recently had the good fortune of meeting two couples who contributed significantly in a very short time toward the Bucerias Migrant School, located along the arroyo, and Manos de Amor, the local orphanage. Prior to arriving for their vacation, lifelong friends Kris and Cindy, together with their husbands, Wayne and Mel, contacted us to inquire how they could help the Bucerias community. Upon receiving a wish list for both the school and the orphanage, they didn’t waste any time in their determination to donate. I still can’t believe only four people handled the volume of goods they travelled with, hauling around multiple heavy bags through airports and happily paying surcharges for overweight luggage, all with a positive bounce in their step.
First we delivered to the orphanage. Sheets, towels, dozens of pairs of shoes, and much more. There wasn’t room for one more item in the Jetta’s trunk, no matter how small! A tour of the home was appreciated, and everyone enjoyed some play time.
Next came a visit to the Bucerias Migrant School. The children swarmed the foursome as they arrived bearing hula hoops and skipping ropes. Instant phys-ed time! The couples also supplied a healthy morning snack of apples and bananas, and spent time interacting with the students, everyone sporting big smiles. In addition to this, these amazing people also donated dozens of school uniform shirts, as well as many school supplies to be included in each student’s Christmas backpack gift. In an energizer-bunny kind of way, they just kept on giving. Before leaving to return home to Washington, they put together a beautiful basket of local goodies to be auctioned at the annual Migrant School fundraiser, scheduled for February, and included very famous Cougar Gold cheese made by students at Washington State University…Go Cougars!
This is a special story, but thankfully, just one of its kind. It takes many like minded people to contribute to community needs and each effort is truly appreciated.
Educational supplies (pens, notebooks, erasures, etc) cash donations, volunteering time, cleaning supplies, electricity bill payments, all attained through individuals or friendship groups who come together to support these worthy causes. Bucerias thanks you.
