Hello Out There
Six months is long enough to learn how to live with this pandemic. Not to take it lightly, but the time has come to get on with life. Hand washing, wearing a mask, hand sanitizer are now a part of our daily routine. Never have I had my temperature taken so often! Social distancing is pretty easy.
For the first few months, I felt like a turtle living in my shell. Popped my head out occasionally to take a peek, then back in the shell. Bucerias where we make our home was dormant. Most everything was closed. Gradually protocols were established and we began to notice that businesses were re-opening. Not as robust and busy as before, but nonetheless open.
These are a few of the places we have visited in the past few weeks. We have been impressed with the protocols they are observing and feel comfortable enjoying a visit.
In no particular order, La Quinta Di Francesco, offers a great variety of Italian food. Francesco has that open kitchen that offers those mouth-watering aromas that are unique to Italian restaurants. laquintadifrancesco.com
Barchelata Beer Bar has daily food specials. Julio, the owner has a great selection of beers, and a steady diet of Soccer, MLB, NHL, NFL on several large screens. Great spot to watch your favourite team! barchelatabucerias@hotmail.com Julio says, “New protocols, new life.”
Armi Grano’s popular Encore Restaurant, ably staffed by Lauro and Abril, is a good bet for breakfast or lunch. Happy hour is a nice addition to a great menu. encoreonthebeach.com
The Red Apple has re-opened. Nice to see Ricardo and Veronica back. Their smiling faces are a welcome accompaniment to the excellent food they prepare and serve. Find them on Facebook or call 329 298 1235
Karen’s is open. She has added a Friday pub night with English style fish and chips, and a Sunday evening “carvery”. We tried the roast beef and yorkshire pudding. Splendid! karensplacebucerias.com
Miguel is open with a full menu and has live entertainment. You may not see Miguel in the restaurant, but you will see him in the town square meeting and greeting. Our very own ambassador. miguelangelbucerias.com
Five months without a reuben sandwich. It was really that long. Welcome back Simon, of Simon’s Bistro. Great menu, but I am hooked on that corned beef, marble rye bread, sauerkraut! simonsbistro.com
It was not my intent to miss anyone. These are the establishments that we have visited and felt safe and comfortable. As we visit more, we will pass it on.
Oyster culling has started up again. Another indication that Bucerias is waking up after a long nap.
Saw the policia municipal putting up speed limit signs on Lazaro Cardenas. TWENTY KM. Adds enhanced safety to the pedestrians, horse back riders, cyclists. Great idea!
Avenue Las Palmas gets an overdue trim. Like most of us, it was a long time between haircuts.
It is not our intent to downplay the serious nature of the pandemic. It is here, and it is lethal. Bucerias is coping with it and slowly learning how to get on with life with a smile behind that mask and a liberal application of hand sanitizer!
Great info. Thank you. We pray that we can return this winter.
Oh, and us, too, amigos! Fingers crossed that 2021 will be better.
DO take care,
K&D
Thanks so much for the update. Look forward to more as we all anticipate our return when it is safe to do so. Stay safe and healthy.
We appreciate you following us, muchas gracias. Bucerias and all her beauty will still be here upon your return.
You stay safe and healthy as well, and positive, too!
Saludos,
Bucerias Life in the Slow Lane
Thank you for the update. So many of us snowsbirds are weighing our options for this season.
Thank you for following! We understand, it’s a tough decision this year, with many factors to weigh.
Whatever you decide, as they say in Mexico, “We’ll be waiting for you!”
Saludos, Amiga
So excited to have found this page! We are Texans in the process of buying a condo in Bucerias and plan to spend at least 6 months of the year there. We can’t wait to get there and get to know Bucerias as residents and not just tourists!
Amigos, thank you for your message. We, too, can’t wait for you to get here! You’re going to love it, but you already know that. Do send us a note when you arrive – it will be our pleasure to meet you. In the meantime, we’re happy to answer any questions to the best of our ability. And, follow us on Facebook so you don’t miss any news!
Travel safe, Amigos.
