The Doors of Bucerias – Part 1
Hola. We are John and Susan Brook.
Another two Canadians who love Mexico and in particular Bucerias. We are not worldly travellers but have been fortunate enough to have visited a few places around the globe. Sue is very gifted with her crafts and is constantly looking at how she can change something into a beautiful piece of art.
I come from a long line of professional photographers from the 1800’s: my great-great-grandfather, great-grandfather, grandfather, my father, and my son, I’m not that talented. What Sue and I both share is a love for the beauty in architectural design used by different cultures around the world; from the beautiful Windows in Italy to The Doors of Bucerias.
Our last visit was January 2020 as guests of some close dear friends. That was it, we fell in love with Bucerias. Sue and I go on countless walks and the one common thing we talk about and admire is the beautiful doors that homeowners have. The vibrant colours, the texture, the craftmanship, the materials used. New and old, they are all so unique and stunning to see.
I often think, does the door reflect the people behind it? What does it hide that I can’t see from the street?
Every day we go out it’s a new adventure to find a door we have not seen yet and capture it. I am not sure if I have a favourite because it just might be the one door I have not found and then again, why not make them all my favourites? With that said, the old wooden battered and weathered door on Calle Lazaro Cardenas I believe is the most famous. When you see it, you will know it. I honestly believe we have only seen a small sampling of what is out there for us.
Sue and I are grateful to have the opportunity to share these beauties with everyone and I want to thank Dennis and Kelly for that.
Our plan is to come back time and time again to continue this adventure of finding The Doors of Bucerias.
