Day-to-Day

What A Month!

How often do we hear, what a day, or what a night? Sometimes, what a weekend, or what a week? This is about what a month.

Kelly and I share five children. Actually we have shared them for quite a few happy years. Two married, three single. The singles were in loving relationships and the sun was shining on all. We heard from youngest son Clayton that he and his partner Fadi were engaged. Great news! Open a bottle of Prosecco and have a Facetime toast! Not too long after that we heard from our middle son Ryan that he and Emily were engaged. More Prosecco and more toasting.

We were so happy being happy about the engagements, that we never really focused on the weddings that are known to follow engagements. Newsflash! Clay and Fadi are getting married here in Bucerias, this November 11th. How exciting is that? Destination wedding, everyone staying at the all-inclusive Royal Decameron. Wedding and reception at Karen’s Place. Kelly and I are living this week out in our minds…what’s that? Looks like Ryan is trying to video chat with us…”Emily and I are getting married in Punta Cana November 26th.” Yes, weddings do follow engagements.

Clay and Fadi’s wedding week was outstanding. Saw so many family and friends that we missed during the pandemic. Made some new friends. Their exchange of vows with Bahia de Banderas as the setting, was a living postcard.

The next question on our personal game show, is how to get to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, from Puerto Vallarta? Being winter, of course, airline travel routes are from cold to hot and back. Why would any sane person want to go from hot to hot? Two options: four flights over two days, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, Panama, then Punta Cana, for option 1; Puerto Vallarta to Toronto, couple days visiting, Toronto to Punta Cana with the destination wedding crowd, option 2, which we judged to be marginally better.

Another great week in Punta Cana. The other side of our family, more old and new friends. The exchange of vows with the beach and ocean. It couldn’t have been nicer. Been a while since we have been anywhere all-inclusive. How quickly we remembered breakfast coffee with Bailey’s, mimosas please, hold the orange juice!

We arrived home to Bucerias on November 30th. Glad to pass on that we have transformed from sleep walkers to functioning retirees. We are so lucky to have had the joy of two of our children’s weddings. Sure was a month.
