A Tale of Two Restaurants - Bucerias Life in The Slow Lane

A Tale of Two Restaurants

A few weeks ago we could enjoy breakfast at Kape. The food was particularly good, and the Huevos Rancheros were spectacular! In the scheme of things, this was Karina’s restaurant, located on Calle Guadalupe Victoria on the east side of town.

A little later in the day might find us at Julio’s Barchelata Beer Bar, located on Av. Las Palmas. A favourite sporting event would be on one of the many screens. A chilled beverage in hand. This was Julio’s domain.

Julio and Karina are married, to each other, that is. Operating two businesses in two different locations was more difficult than it needed to be. Two kitchens, two of everything. Julio referred to the idea of operating Kape in the morning from the Barchelata building, and the beer and sports bar in the afternoon and evening, as “fusion”.

They closed both places for a few weeks during the summer for renovations, and of course, family time.

The Big News

Starting October 17th, Karina will be offering her delicious Kape breakfasts at the Barchelata location from 8am-12:30 pm, Monday to Saturday. Her menu and mouthwatering dishes will remain the same. Kape will be closed Sundays.

The operation will continue through the day as the breakfast and coffee bar closes, and the sports bar opens.

Julio has made some changes. In addition to twenty-five beer brands and a full service menu, I counted nineteen television screens for a wide range of sporting events. It is not recommended that one sample all twenty-five brands at the same sitting!

The collection of remote controllers is a Couch Potato’s dream!
The biggest change is Sundays. In addition to a full selection of NFL games at Barchelata, burritos will be offered. From 11am-5pm, you will be able to cheer for your favourite team, and enjoy a first rate burrito. Burrito Sunday will officially kickoff October 16th. Be sure to watch Julio’s favourite team the Miami Dolphins perform like the Miami Mahi-Mahi.

See you there for breakfast OR a burrito and a beer!
