“The Grace of Pelicans” – Horace’s Pix Picks
Bucerias Life in the Slow Lane was born thirteen months ago. With your help in spreading the word our readership has steadily grown, and we are approaching a milestone in our number of followers. We are quite humbled by the response, and having had so much fun thus far, we are driven to provide more. What better way to do that than to add a specialized contributor?
INTRODUCING……(drum roll, please)
We are so pleased to welcome a new columnist, Horace Smith, whose photographic montages are sure to delight our readers. Those who know Horace know of his passion for photography and his ability to uniquely capture nature’s glory; beach scenes, a shy smile, or those rascally Mexican racoons, the coatimundi.
Horace and his wife chose to winter in Bucerias, primarily due to the many options for supporting our community through volunteer opportunities. Eager to return to volunteering in person as soon as able, they are quietly working in the background, assisting various groups to help launch some local projects. We know you’ll love the pictorial compositions to come, like this one, Horace’s first contribution to our website. Welcome aboard, Amigo!

“The Grace of Pelicans” – from Horace Smith
Pelicans seem to be the Rodney Dangerfield of the bird realm. They receive little respect and are not generally considered to be beautiful or majestic. Until I arrived in Bucerias, I had never seen a pelican in flight over open waters. Their effortless grace in flight has been awe-inspiring to me.
“If only my words could fly across the page with the grace of pelicans…” Nature Writer Marina Richie
Most of these photos were taken on the beach halfway between Centro and the Royal Decameron
